Mariano Di Paola
Mariano Di Paola has been the head winemaker at Bodega La Rural since 1995. A graduate of the esteemed Facultad de Enología e Industria Frutihortícola Don Bosco, with a degree in Enology and Viticulture, Di Paola has emerged as one of Argentina´s preeminent winemakers.
Di Paola´s philosophy is one of constant experimentation and learning; he is a fervent student of grape-growing and wine-making, and a revered professor at the University where he has continued since graduation to teach courses, currently as head of the Enological Technology Department.
Di Paola was drawn to La Rural because of its leading role in Tupungato, Argentina´s premier grape growing region within the province of Mendoza. Nicolás Catena was drawn to Di Paola by their shared passion for winemaking and their mutual commitment to academics.
In the few short years that the two have worked togheter Di Paola has completely modernized the wine-making facilities at La Rural to the point where several of his Californian winemaking colleagues have openly displayed their admiration. Di Paola often travels to winemaking regions in both established and emerging regions to study and to share vineyard and cellar practices as part of his commitment to La Rural´s position as a world class winery.
Mariano Di Paola sums up his approach to winemaking: "I put all of my passion for wine into every grape taninn, into every stage of vinification and finally into every bottle of wine. A great wine is made with much dedication and hard work. I strive to put my heart and soul into every detail of the winemaking process".
